Waterfalls in Canada
From the thunderous cascades to the quieter forest falls, the waterfalls of Canada are impressive. While Niagara Falls is undoubtedly the biggest & best known, there are plenty more to see. You may well have heard of or visited the stunning waterfalls of Montmorency, Athabasca or Helmcken Falls, all of which are amazing too.
If you love a waterfall (who doesn't?) but prefer a quieter experience, we've got some lesser known ones that are worth adding to your bucket list.
Kakabeka Falls, Ontario
Thunderous Kakabeka Falls, near Thunder Bay is the second tallest waterfall in Ontario at 40m. Local legend has it that a young woman, Green Mantle saved her village by leading invading warriors over the Falls plunging to their deaths in the river below. Fossils dating back 1.6 million years have been revealed here. It is also part of the historic fur trade routes from the 18th & 19th centuries. This well-maintained park has a boardwalk around the top of the Falls for incredible views & is open all year round.
Great for: History lovers

Takakkaw Falls - early Spring or late Autumn, British Columbia
Located in Yoho National Park, this impressive waterfall cascades 370m from the Daly Glacier. It is easily accessed only a short paved walk from the parking area just off the Yoho Valley Road. Like many waterfalls in the Rockies, it is the most dramatic in mid Jun when the glacier melt runs off. Given the power of the Falls & the beauty of the surrounding area, it's no surprise that Takakkaw means 'Magnificent' in the indigenous Cree language.

Surrounded by lush forest, this lovely three tier waterfall drops 43m into the rugged canyon is a great spot. Cameron Falls, Alberta
Located in Waterton Lakes National Park, Cameron Falls flow over two tiers in a scenic spot, a short walk from Waterton. With the Falls lit up at night, it is a lovely place for an evening stroll. The pool below the falls is a popular spot for fishing in the summer months. It's only actually been seen once, but it is possible for the water to appear pink after heavy rainfall. You never know though you could be lucky! In the winter, it looks stunning framed by snow & ice.
Great for: Nature lovers
