Is it worth staying at the Marina Bay Sands?
Once you've seen the pictures of the Marina Bay Sands, it simply captures the imagination. Staying here was top of our list so we splurged (for us) on 2 amazing nights. I've mentioned the infinity pool a few times already & will probably mention it a few more. Is it worth staying here? Read on to find out more...
First impressions
As we walked in for the first time, you can't help but be impressed with the sheer size of the space. With a huge Antony Gormley sculpture hanging from the ceiling & massive plant pots, the reception desk is tiny in comparison. We didn't have long to wait & were able to check in to our room immediately (before midday) which was a bonus. My 8 year old also loved the lollipop he was given.
Our room
Our 15th floor room was stunning with a view over the bay, two standard doubles & lots of floor space. The bathroom was a delight, two sinks, a huge shower & a separate toilet. We loved the way the curtains opened automatically whenever we entered the room. The toilet was a Japanese style one - with a heated seat & all manner of jet, spray & drying options leading to a fair few yelps of surprise!

The rooftop
As the rooftop is the biggest attraction here, we went up to the 57th floor to see what all the fuss was about as soon as we arrived. The views over Singapore & the Gardens of the Bay are amazing, & the pool is quite simply incredible - its the best infinity pool I've ever been in. We used the pool later that evening, a few hours the following day & again first thing the morning we left. I expected the pool to be really busy with other guests but it was never very busy - it seemed as though many people came for their instagram pictures & then left.
What else is there to do?
We were travelling with our 8 year old so the largest casino in South East Asia was off limits to us. It was incredibly popular though - with a neverending queue for the ATMs. The Marina Bay Sands is linked to the MRT station & a huge shopping centre - with all the high end names you can think of - Gucci, Burberry etc, etc.
There are 60 restaurants in the MBS complex, we dined at Rise for breakfast. You would be hard pushed to not find something you like, cuisines included western, Indian, Malaysian, Chinese as well as a wide range of fruit, pastries & breads. The attention to detail was impressive, the pips were removed from the watermelon & the shapes were precise. Note: Don't turn up for breakfast in your complimentary slippers, you won't be allowed in.
We also ate in the food court, which meant we could all eat what we wanted. We spent less than £8 for a main course each which was great value.
The service
We can't talk about the MBS without talking about the service. We had a slight hiccup with changing locks, a quick word with the manager, Mansour & we were quickly compensated with food & beverage credit & a free limo to the airport. We were really impressed by the quick reaction & offering us more than we'd expected. Earlier in our stay, we ordered another robe from housekeeping via the TV in our room & it was delivered approx. 1 min later. The choc mousse cake for the birthday celebrations was orange chocolate & absolutely delicious. In the interest of balance, housekeeping didn't manage to rustle up a peppermint tea bag when requested.
Is it worth it? Absolutely, we loved staying at the MBS & I'd stay again in a heartbeat (finances allowing).
If you aren't staying here, you can still visit the observation deck for the same views.
