Should I choose a car or a motorhome?
Driving is often the most cost effective way of travelling, giving flexibility to your holiday. In Canada, the US, Australia & New Zealand, it is a popular way to explore more than one place. Once you've decided you want to drive, the next question is should you go with a car or a motorhome?
Here is what you need to consider (and don't miss our exclusive offer for newsletter subscribers below).
What experience are you looking for?
When travelling by motorhome, setting up home every night is part of the fun. Getting your beds ready, fetching water & preparing your meals needs everybody on board to help.
If you are thinking, I'm on holiday I don't want to do all that stuff, then may be a car is a better option for you.
The campsites are usually pretty friendly places & you'll soon get to know your neighbours. If you are travelling with children, the chances are they'll make new friends & absolutely love the experience.
Many people are looking for flexibility to stop where & when they want which is a great way to travel. You may need to book ahead though to guarantee a spot in your chosen site / location especially if you are going at a busy time.
Where will you be travelling to?
If your itinerary is about seeing the great outdoors, a car or a motorhome is great. If you are visiting lots of cities or travelling along narrow roads, how comfortable will you be driving a motorhome? What about parking it?
Many of our customers find it much easier than they think beforehand but others find the whole idea quite stresstul.
You will usually pick up & drop off your vehicle in a major city, we often recommend not picking up your vehicle until the day you are ready to leave & drop it off the day you arrive in the city. This can avoid costly unnecessary parking charges.

Are you looking to keep costs down?
Is a motorhome cheaper than a car & a hotel? Well, it depends what type of car & the standard of hotel. If for example, you compare a mid range car & 3 to 4 star hotel with a motorhome & campsites, they can often be very similar in price.
A motorhome offers the option of self catering, a popular choice for those looking to keep spending on food & drinks down. For many, dining out offers some of the best experiences on holidays so hotels or motorhomes are both great options.
What else do I need to consider?
If you are going to be driving a car, you will also need accommodation for every night of your holiday. Sometimes this can be arranged as you go but if you are going at a busy time of year or to a popular destination, you'll want to book in advance.
If you opt for a motorhome, you'll need to consider where you will sleep. Most people choose to stay at official campsites to take advantage of power & facility blocks so you can have a shower. The campsites cost needs to be factored into your holiday too. Sometimes its an option for free camping but you will need to make sure you meet the requirements & stay in legally approved spots.
We know that cost is a factor but we think the choice should be about the experience you want to have. If you think you'll enjoy both, let us know as we will be happy to create a tailored itinerary for you.
