Find paradise in Mauritius
Looking for paradise on holiday? We recommend gorgeous Mauritius with its stunning sandy beaches, sparkling seas & lush forests.
This tropical island famed as the home of the now extinct Dodo, is a great place to enjoy beach life but there is more on offer here. The lush interior offers jungle, waterfalls & amazing trails & the wildlife found here ranges from the huge variety of birdlife to the giant tortoise. The rich influence of Indian, French, Chinese, African & Creole cooking, undoubtedly make for one of the most delicious & interesting cuisines in the world.
Beaches
It is often the incredible beaches that entice tourists to visit & with so many to choose from, it is easy to see why.
- Flic en Flac is a popular choice particularly with families, with its long stretch of sand offering a lagoon ideal for exploring the reef & its inhabitants. When you are hungry, a wander to the street food stands & you'll be spoilt for choice of authentic Mauritian cuisine
- Trou aux Biches is often ranked among the world's best beaches. Its a great choice for snorkellers & divers with a choice of diving schools near by. The shade of the casuarina trees makes this beach ideal for a long walk. The sunsets are incredible here too.
- Le Morne (pictured below) is spectacular with silky white sand & crystal clear waters with the backdrop off the monolith of Le Morne Brabant. When surf season arrives (Jun to Sep), surf schools & camps come out in force for beginners & pros alike to take advantage of the impressive waves. The colours of the sky on Le Morne are a delight at sunrise or sunset.
What else is there to do?
Inland Mauritius should not be overlooked offering native forests, mountains & lakes. We like the Black River Gorges National Park (pictured below) where you can see macaque monkeys & deer as well as stunning scenery. There are plenty of well marked trails here allowing the visitor to explore independently.
A visit to the Charmarel 7 coloured earth geopark is a unique & memorable experience. The naturally formed layers of different coloured sand is one of the most photographed attractions on the island. No mean feat with such gorgeous landscapes everywhere you look.
