Introducing Bangladesh
Bangladesh may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of holiday destinations. If off the beaten track holidays with authentic experiences & a real feeling of adventure appeals, this fascinating country is for you.
In this article, we look at where you can go, what to see & do in this incredible country.
Dhaka
Any visit to Bangladesh will most likely start in Dhaka, the lively, colourful capital city. Known for its over 500,000 cycle rickshaws, more than in any other city in the world, you can take your pick of mosques, temples & palaces, admire the fascinating architecture of Old Dhaka & enjoy the delicious local cuisine.
We recommend:
- Take a rickshaw ride – a wonderful way to experience the city
- Visit Lalbagh Fort, this 17th century Mughal fort complex in Old Dhaka offers a calmer respite from the craziness of the city
- Explore Bangladesh’s Pink Palace, Ahsan Manzil, the former palace of the Nawab of Dhaka & now a museum
Sundarban National Park
This mangrove forest, a UNESCO World heritage site, is one of the largest in the world covering an area of approximately 10,000 square kilometres across Bangladesh & India. It features tidal waterways, mud flats & mangrove forest islands creating an incredible unique eco-system. It is home to over 260 bird species, crocodiles, lizards, spotted deer, monkeys, wild boar, snakes, turtles & even dolphins.
This unique environment is home to approximately 100 elusive Royal Bengal tigers. It is very rare to see them but visiting in December or January will give you the best chance.
The best way to explore is on a boat, we recommend spending 2 or 3 nights onboard. If seeing wildlife in the wild is high on your list, this is the place for you.

Sreemangal
“The tea capital” of Bangladesh is home to lush tea plantations & rolling hills, the perfect place to slow down & enjoy your surroundings. Here you can walk through stunning tea gardens, explore pineapple plantations & cycle quiet village lanes.
Top tip: Don’t miss the unique 7 layer tea experience!
The exact recipe is a closely guarded secret, but each layer is made from tea with a different density & colour including green & black tea. Condensed milk & spices also feature.
Cox’s Bazar
Cox’s Bazar is home to more than 120 km of continuous sandy beach, the longest in the world. The gorgeous drive to get here is a delight with its beautiful sea views. Once you arrive, spend your time relaxing on the beach or trying your hand at surfing before enjoying a delicious seafood meal.
If you want to explore beyond the beach, Himchari National Park is a short distance away offering scenic walks to explore the waterfall. Our advice is to go early as it can get busy.
