See the 2m high Buddha made of white jade at the Jade Buddha temple or the three Buddhas under their red and gold dome at the Longhua temple. Both temples are still very much in use today. Alternatively, why not visit the Temple of the City God, a Taoist temple dedicated to the protectors of the city?
Whilst you are in the area, Yu Yuan Garden is a classical garden with its very popular collection of pavillions, bridges, rockeries and ponds filled with carp. Nearby, if you need to quench your thirst, why not try the Mid Lake Pavillion Tea House? One of the most famous in China and reputedly once visited by Queen Elizabeth II.
